Organized by the National Geographic Society of Washington, D.C., this international geography competition is held every two years. Canada has participated in every international competition since 1995 and has done very well winning Bronze in 1995, Gold in 1997 and 2009, Silver in 1999, 2001 and 2011 and Bronze in 2005 and 2007.

Canadian team members travel to the site of the World Championship for two days of competition.

The team will be accompanied by a teacher-member of the Canadian Council for Geographic Education.
